Sunderland's Elmohamady Doesn't Fit 4-3-3 Sam!

He may be cheap but Elmohamady does not fit Allardyce's preferred 4-3-3 formation. He may also be "tireless", a worker and a reasonable crosser of the ball, but the killer stat is that in 54 appearances for the Black Cats, the red Egyptian has scored a grand total of...one goal! And it wasn't a lot better when he played for the mighty "Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries Club" in the mighty Egyptian league, for 53 starts yielded just 9 goals.

Honestly, what is the point of signing somebody like this? Martin O'Neill is a decent judge of a player and doesn't rate the guy, and he is at an age where he isn't going to suddenly improve. Faubert was jettisoned because he couldn't fit the 4-3-3 shape due to his ineptitude in the box, and Elmohamady's goals per game return is remarkably similar to the fat arsed Frenchman's.

Should we sign Elmo? I'd rather have Bert and Ernie myself!

Football isn't all about wingers, whu98.
Haven't been watching elmohamady intensely, though I thought I could remember him being a decent player until o'neil came along. Maybe o'neil doesn't like that sort of player.

Honestly, I would rather have Elmohamady than Faubert, because let's face it, he can't be worse right? I read about the guy and just like HF said,he isn't that amazing of a player. But you never know.. Look how Vaz Te has improved. You never know I guess.. And yes,I agree that football is not all about wingers.

It depends on what formation we will play

As a 4-5-1 elmohamady is a good player but if your looking for a winger who has pace and can score goals Ince is good.

And if we're looking for a new midfielder what's happend to jenas

I dont know the player at all, but this is the first time in a very long while we have had a manager of Sams experience preparing us for a year in the EPL. His tactics drove me crazy at times just like a lot of other supporters, but I am willing to believe he has a plan for anybody we bring in.

And after pissing away more money than we could ever imagine on fees and wages under our last regime, Id rather have a cheap guy that Sam picks than a multi million pound waste of space that Curbs or Zola were allowed to buy.

Whu98, apparently we are very close to signing zaha. A better player than ince, imo

my mate is a sunderland fan and i have been to several games with him, elmo is a faubert clone but he can head and cross a ball, sunderlands only tactic under bruce was wack it long for elmo to knock down (sound familiar), for a fairly short guy he has an amazing leap, secondly he plays rb for egypt and has similar pace as faubert....only he will be on 1/4 of the wages, maybe big sam fancies him for 3 reasons, price, ability in the air and versatility

We need a right winger who can also defend in a 4-5-1 system. Elmo has pace, premiership and international experience is on cheap wages and also crucially is available and probably would relish some first team football. Also, its notoriously difficult for some people to settle in Sunderland (Gyan, Bentdner) so maybe a move to London will be better for Elmo.

In summary I think he's s decent signing who wont break the bank. He has some good attributes (pace and athleticism) that Big Sam likes so I think we should give him a chance...

it will probably end up being a season long loan, which is brilliant for us, we cant loose

It was hard for Bentdner to settle because he isn't very good.
